Ofwat
The Office of Water Services Ofwat is the regulator for the water industry in England and Wales. It was set up in 1989 to monitor the services provided by water companies, encourage competition within the industry and cap the prices that water companies charge consumers. It works closely with water quality regulators the Environment Agency and the Drinking Water Inspectorate and the Consumer Council for Water. Ofwat is independent of the government and water companies although it is directly accountable to Parliament and the Welsh Assembly.
