Yahoo Finance Olivia Wilde's statement eye look is a nod to the sixties
Conversation-sparking make-up looks such as a bejewelled lip or diamante freckles never fail to create a memorable moment. The latest A-lister to embrace this creative approach to red carpet glamour is Olivia Wilde. At the inaugural Fashion Trust US awards in LA, the actor and director made an appearance in a high-necked Chloé ensemble and matching platform boots styled by Karla Welch.
To add interest to the sleek, ultra-modern number, Wilde and make-up artist Jo Baker went with a sixties inspired look reminiscent of icons Cher and Jane Birkin, complete with a floating eyeliner on the top and bottom eyelids.
Baker, who's known for creating quirky, ethereal make-up on Hollywood darlings such as Lucy Boynton and Vanessa Kirby, opted for a cool grey colour story to harmoniously complement the all-black outfit and make Wilde's blue-green eyes pop. "Retro femme feels…. some soft vintage finish liner + lashes on," says Baker via Instagram.
As the founder of her own beauty brand, Bakeup, the make-up artist naturally used products from an upcoming launch but the look can easily be recreated with a smoky eyeshadow palette, eyeliner and lashings of mascara (or carefully-applied false lashes). A gentle contour and pale-nude lipstick allow the eyes to take centre stage.
It's easy to cross into costume territory with retro-style make-up but hairstylist Mara Roszak's textured chignon lends a cool-girl vibe to the look. "Olivia with what I call a 'French girl bang'. They’re a very light long bang that are blended into a jawbone length layer giving a flattering sculpted shape around the face. Perfect if you throw your hair up," explains Roszak on her Instagram post. Face-framing fringes like Wilde's are also a great idea for anyone who's after a hair refresh without the drastic change.
Looks like the vintage sixties vibe is here to stay.
