Murs was himself a contestant on a popular singing talent show, finishing runner up to Joe McElderry in the 2009 series of X Factor.

He added: “I show them how to win a show, but I didn’t even win the show. I suppose I give them the tools they need to win, which I’ve learnt over the years.”

Zimbabwe-born Winner Chitapa, who lives in Dudley in the West Midlands, sang Robbie Williams hit Angels and James Bay’s Hold Back The River in the final.

She said on the show: “It has been an honour and my privilege and it has been unforgettable.”

The 18-year-old went on to describe herself as “so happy to have sung on this stage”.

Chitapa also addressed the win on Twitter, saying: “I meeeaannn it’s not like I just won the voice uk 2020 or whatever... little me from Zimbabwe did it man !! Twitter yall are showing love fr.”
