Yahoo Finance On 10-year anniversary of his famous NCAA tournament shot vs. Kansas, Ali Farokhmanesh and family adorably re-enact play
The Farokhmanesh family has a Friday pick-me-up for you. Unless you’re a Kansas fan.
Former Northern Iowa guard Ali Farokhmanesh is now an assistant coach at Colorado State. Ten years ago, he famously hit a three-pointer to give No. 9 seed Northern Iowa an insurmountable four-point lead over No. 1 seed Kansas in the 2010 NCAA tournament.
And with the 10-year anniversary of Farokhmanesh’s shot approaching and an empty gym available, Colorado State and the Farokhmanesh family decided to have some fun re-enacting one of the gutsiest shots in recent NCAA tournament memory.

Northern Iowa was leading 63-62 with 42.8 seconds left before Farokhmanesh’s shot. Kansas put on a full-court press after cutting the lead to one with the hopes of forcing a turnover. UNI broke the press and got the ball down the court to Farokhmanesh on the wing. With a defender in front of him who retreated to the paint, Farokhmanesh was left wide open.
It would have made plenty of sense for Farokhmanesh to waste some clock with the ball. UNI could have cut the clock to under 10 seconds by using up all the shot clock. But he pulled the trigger on the wide-open three just 10 seconds into the possession.

Kansas never got to within a point again as Northern Iowa hung on for a 69-67 win and Farokhmanesh went down in NCAA tournament lore. Without a tournament this year, thank you to the Farokhmanesh family for giving us some basketball to smile about.
