Back sleepers rejoice, this is the one for you

(The Independent)

Struggling to get a good night’s kip? You’re not alone. Research indicates that despite the fact many of us have more time for sleep owing to lockdown, the quality of our Zs has become worse.

One solution is to take a read of our guide to the things the IndyBest team can’t sleep without – think everything from PJs and candles to pillows and duvets. It is, after all, our job to recommend products, so we’re quite sure you’ll find something there to help improve your sweet slumbers.

But, another route is to reconsider your bedding. Replacing your mattress can be hard work; deciding on firmness and whether to opt for foam or springs is difficult even when shops are open, nevermind during lockdown (read our mattress buying guide if you need some expert help).

It’s also a costly upgrade. As such, it pays to keep an eye out for flash deals and discounts, so you can rest easy knowing you’ve saved where you can.

Luckily, here at IndyBest, we’re constantly keeping an eye out for a good deal. And one of our favourite bed-in-a-box mattress brands has just slashed the price of its mattresses by nearly a third.

Combining memory foam and springs, the Otty hybrid is a slightly firmer mattress that adapts to your body and provides plenty of support and comfort.

It also comes with a 10-year guarantee and a 100-night trial, so in the unlikely event that you decide it’s not for you, Otty will arrange for it to be collected and you will receive a full refund.

If this sounds like it’ll solve all your sleep woes (we think it will), read on for our review of the mattress, and rest easy knowing you’ve saved on this hybrid wonder.

Our IndyBest team hand-picks every deal we feature. We may earn some commission from the links in this article, but our selections have been made independently and without bias. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

This hybrid mattress, which comes in single, small double, double, king, super king and emperor sizes, received high praise in our review of the best mattresses.

Five layers are used to help give you your best night’s sleep: the top features a temperature regulating foam, which our writer praised; the second is supportive foam providing comfort and support; the third is where the pocket springs come in to provide a medium-firm base; the fourth uses airflow technology to make sure of edge-to-edge support; and, finally, the bottom layer is foam. The layers make sure the bed has “great longevity with no sagging or softening even years later”, noted our writer.

It is on the firm side and our reviewer noted that she could feel it adapting to her body as she moved, “giving it a feel unlike any other bed-in-a-box mattress”. Plus, it proved “particularly supportive” for their spine, with our writer calling it “brilliant” for those who sleep on their back.

To make sure your mattress stands the test of time, you do need to rotate it every six months. While she noted that the Otty does take a little getting used to, it’s “well worth it”.
