The One Show hosts left red-faced after fan confuses Michael Ball with Michael Bolton

The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keating were left a little red-faced on Friday's (May 7) episode after the latter read out a message from a rather confused viewer.

The note came from someone who claimed to be a big fan of in studio guest Michael Ball, so much so that they danced to one of his songs at their wedding. Only, they didn't. Let us explain...

The message read: "15 years ago me and my wife danced to Michael singing 'Time, Love and Tenderness' at our wedding. We'll be listening to it again tonight."

That all sounds very sweet, only Michael looked a little confused at the confession and raised his eyebrows.

"I never ever have sung that song," he bluntly replied to the former Boyzone star. Cue the awkward moment followed by fits of laughter from the singer and the entire studio. Awks.

As the camera cut away to the hosts, Michael added, "I swear!" before Alex admitted: "That's brilliant!"

Turns out, the viewer actually got the musical legend confused with another singing Michael, as the singing Mike they were referring to was actually American belter Michael Bolton. Bolton released the song back in 1991, and to be fair, it would make a nice first dance.

Luckily, the blunder went down right at the very end of the episode, meaning the awkward moment could be cut short. Ronan swiftly moved on by admitting that was all they had time for and the show came to an abruptly hilarious end.

Plenty of fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts, pointing out mix up of the Michaels. One even called it "the best ever moment in the history" of The One Show.

The mishap happened around a week after it was confirmed that Ronan would be one of the new permanent hosts on the BBC One chat show after previously stepping in for various episodes over the years.

The singer will be swapping out his role with former footballer Jermaine Jenas. Jermaine sits on the sofa on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while Ronan takes over on Thursdays and Fridays.

Let's just hope next Thursday and Friday's end of show comments are from people who know their own wedding songs just a little better...

The One Show airs Monday to Friday at 7pm on BBC One.
