Barbara Judge, the chair of the Institute of Directors, has joined the board of UK HR startup Hibob.

Lady Judge is a big name in London: She was previously an executive director at News International, she was the first woman on the board of overseers of the Wharton School of Management, and she was also chair of the Pension Protection Fund.

Now Lady Judge is getting involved with tech startups.

Hibob creates an online destination for employment data that can tell businesses about their staff and suggest which perks a company should offer. Put in information like an employee's marital status or their passions and you'll get better perks out of the system.

The company has raised $7.5 million (£5.1 million) in seed funding from investors including TransferWise cofounder Taavet Hinrikus, Saul and Robin Klein's seed fund LocalGlobe, and Silicon Valley investment firm Bessemer Venture Partners.

“Small and medium sized businesses are the backbone of our economy,” said Lady Judge. “Yet the daily pressure they face to remain compliant and retain their staff is huge. Hibob is spearheading some much needed innovation to help companies grapple with this.”
