Only Shell's gas subsidiary pays corporate tax in Netherlands - company

THE HAGUE, May 21 (Reuters) - Royal Dutch Shell said that only its gas subsidiary NAM paid corporate tax in the Netherlands, where it is headquartered, in 2018.

The revelation was prompted by Dutch parliamentary demands that the company attend a hearing on tax avoidance by multinational companies.

"Recently there has been much speculation as to whether Shell does or doesn't pay corporate tax in the Netherlands," the company said on Tuesday.

"By giving openness before the round table, hopefully room will be created for the conversation to be about the substance," Shell said.

Shell paid $10 billion in corporate tax globally in 2018, it said. (Reporting by Toby Sterling, editing by Louise Heavens)
