Double Strictly Come Dancing champion Oti Mabuse has been taking lifestyle and diet tips from Bill Bailey.

The dancer, who lifted the glitterball trophy with comedian Bailey in the 2020 series, said the star had introduced her to the ketogenic diet - and sticking to it had made her feel “much better” about herself.

The keto diet is very low carb but high fat and protein much like the Atkins and other low carb diets. Actress Vanessa Hudgens, the Kardashian sisters and sportsman LeBron James are famous fans of the lifestyle.

While competing on Strictly last year, Bailey lost over a stone thanks to it.

South African-born Mabuse, 30, who is working with food subscription box The Green Chef, said: “The Keto thing, we started doing it.

“I was introduced to it by Bill actually. He is really healthy. Well it was more his wife, but when we were working together she was making all these healthy meals and she would bring them in for us, so I kept it up. I felt much better about myself. It is really good for me.”

Mabuse, who also won Strictly with soap actor Kelvin Fletcher in 2019, said preparations for the next series of the BBC dance contest were already beginning.

She said: “Strictly is that thing that you know, after summer it’s Strictly. It is a highlight. We all have to abide by government rules but we don’t know [what they will be] yet [ahead of the next series]. What has happened is we have made sure it is a show that can happen in any situation.”

Mabuse is also a judge on upcoming ITV series The Masked Dancer. The show follows a similar format to the Masked Singer where celebrities perform in costume to conceal their identity and a panel have to establish who they are.

The star joked she “wasn’t sure” what she would do if former dance partner Bailey appeared on the show.

“I am obsessed with masked dancer. I am having too much fun on the panel. Like I am supposed to be an expert and I am just laughing. I have been asked: ‘What are going to do if its Bill and you didn’t realise.’ I mean I don’t know what I am going to do, can you imagine?”

Green Chef is the UK’s first keto recipe box service; it also offers vegan, vegetarian, lower carb and balanced diet preferences. Boxes start at £39.69, visit for more information.
