Paddy 'The Baddy' Pimblett may have only just come out on the right side of a controversial decision win over Jared Gordon at UFC 282, but there's no denying, he came into the fight in fantastic shape.

Pimblett has been known to balloon up between fights and in the past has said that he'd "rather be fat and happy than ripped," but now, in a video posted to his YouTube channel, he's explained how he goes from rotund to ripped.

In the video, we see Pimblett waking up at just before 9am. He starts his day with a breakfast of protein pancakes with yoghurt and biscoff, which works out to around 350 calories.

If we needed any proof of how much the UFC fighter enjoys his food when he's not preparing for a fight, his girlfriend, Laura Gregory, reveals how each year Pimblett will enjoy two Christmas dinners, one at her mum's house and another at his own.

Still, during the video, Pimblett is in camp, so isn't just eating right, he's training right too. "Last night I burnt 908 calories in 6 miles, so walking for an hour," he says, before heading off to the gym for sparring practice.

After training, he's joined in the gym by Joel McCarthy – aka The Macro Chef – who's been helping Pimblett make weight since before he joined the UFC. As well as being a trained chef, McCarthy is also a former fighter, so he's cut and made weight and knows exactly what it's like to be a fighter going through a tough and exhausting training camp.

"When he's on it, he's on it," McCarthy says of Pimblett. "He doesn't cheat, usually, when he's in camp. I think people think it's more difficult because he's still eating shit, but he's not."

McCarthy explains how when he's preparing for a fight, Pimblett eats between 1400 and 1700 calories a day, with his daily diet consisting of:

  • Breakfast: Protein granola pot or overnight oats – 300 to 350 calories.

  • Lunch: Chicken salad wrap or a BBQ burrito – 450 to 520 calories.

  • Dinner: Chilli meatballs with fusilli pasta or a Wagyu burger with sweet potato fries and greens – 470 to 500 calories.

  • Dessert: Chocolate protein school cake or protein cookies – 220 to 230 calories.

"Paddy is very particular in what vegetables he likes," says McCarthy. "He doesn't like peppers, but he likes cabbage. He doesn't like mushrooms, but he likes peas. Onions and beansprouts are an absolute no go. His favourite thing is a chocolate protein school cake. It's not that high in calories. We've got the knowledge of turning unhealthy food into healthy food."

Back to Pimblett's day, and he's off to watch some of his gym mates fighting in a Cage Warriors event. He gets to the arena nice and early, but turns down an offer of salt and pepper chicken, and instead searches for a microwave to heat up his pre-prepared pasta meal. Once the action is underway he snacks on a banana, which comes in at somewhere between 70 and 110 calories.

At just gone 7pm, Pimblett tucks into his final proper meal of the day: a cajun chicken wrap, with his favourite chocolate school cake for dessert.

However, his next stop is to a restaurant to watch his friend and teammate 'Meatball' Molly McCann in action at UFC 281. She unfortunately falls to defeat, and Pimblett is defeated by temptation, eating three 90 calorie chicken wings.

His calorie intake for the day is 1900 calories, which is significantly lower than his out-of-camp totals. On dieting, he says: "There's no rocket science to it; it's not hard. Get yourself in a calorie deficit. Why do you think I get so fat? It's because I go from eating 1500 or 2000 calories a day to eating 8000 a day. That's why the weight piles on, and that's why it comes off so easily."
