Paralysed pet pug being given new lease of life with specialist set of wheels in UK

A paralysed pug has been given a new lease of life and is finally able to enjoy her walks - after being given a specialist set of WHEELS.

Poorly pooch Yuna began showing problems with her mobility and loss of her back legs when she was just a four-month old puppy.

She was diagnosed with hemivertebra that was crushing her spinal cord and her devastated owners searched everywhere - but struggled to find her any help.

She underwent two failed operations to pin her spine back together before a third surgery from 'super-vet' Noel Fitzpatrick, which was credited with saving her life.

But her owners wanted to give Yuna her freedom back eventually discovered a company in America that offered wheels for dogs and thought they would give it a go.

Luckily they proved a good fit and the speedy contraption can now support Yuna's back legs and enable her to move around virtually pain free.

They can also be taken off and on at ease and her owner Matt Goldsmith said it has been life-changing for his beloved pet, who is now four years old.

Matt, of Paignton, Devon, said: "There was no help anywhere and we really struggled to find what she needed. It was devastating to see her deteriorate and not be able to enjoy the things that dogs are supposed to.

"We looked at everything to try and help her move pain free again, but then when I was googling I just came across these wheels and found a company in America that makes them.

"They were not cheap, but we had to give them a go and I am so glad we did. These wheels have been life-changing for her.

"She has been through some hard and challenging times but is loving life now - and couldn't be happier.

"It may look silly, but I don't care if people laugh at me because I've got a pushchair for my dog or wheels - she's my dog."

The item has proved such a success that Matt has now become the first to sell it in a store in the UK as he wants to give other disabled dogs a change of a better life.

Alongside Chris Mudge, he took over Palin and Way Pet Supplies in Newton Abbot, Devon, where disabled pets can now come in and be measured and fitted with a similar set of wheels

Matt added: "We are the first UK pet shop to have these wheels in store where pets can come in and be fitted.

"They are amazing. We struggled so much to find any help with the wheels as it was all online.

"There has been nothing available in person until now and people want to make sure it will fit their dog before spending money on it.

"We want to help every animal and none deserve to be put to sleep just because of a disability.

"Every animal, in my opinion, deserves a chance. They don't deserve to be put to sleep just because of a disability."

Matt said the wheels could also be used for a range of other animals - from cats, goats and ducks.
