Paris police arrest 148 people after Paris Saint-Germain's loss in Champions League final

Paris Saint-Germain fans didn’t handle Sunday’s loss well. Paris police arrested 148 people after Bayern Munich beat PSG in the Champions League final.

Those arrests came after fans smashed car and store windows, according to the Associated Press. In addition to those arrests, many fans were fined for not wearing masks or adhering to social-distancing policies.

Riot police in Paris used tear gas to break up crowds, according to the AP.

Riot police used tear gas to disperse fans gathered outside the club’s stadium. PSG beamed the match on two giant screens at Parc des Princes, with 5,000 fans allowed inside in keeping with the maximum allowed for soccer games in France as part of virus protection measures.

Fans who were in close quarters with others are encouraged to get tested for the coronavirus.

Arrests come after PSG’s loss in the Champions League

The destruction and riots were a result of Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich on Sunday. Kingsley Coman, a former PSG academy player, scored the winning goal for Bayern.

PSG has never won the Champions League, while Bayern won its sixth overall and first since 2012-13.
