Suits star Patrick J Adams has accused Buckingham Palace and the British press of mistreating Meghan as he defended his former co-star against bullying claims, which the Duchess of Sussex has denied.

The actor, who played Meghan's love interest in the hit legal drama, branded the palace "archaic" and "toxic", and said he was "sickened" by the British press for "the endless racist, slanderous, clickbaiting vitriol" aimed at the duchess.

In a Twitter thread posted on Friday (March 5th), Adams wrote: "Meghan Markle and I spent the better part of a decade working together on Suits. From day one she was an enthusiastic, kind, cooperative, giving, joyful and supportive member of our television family. She remained that person and colleague as fame, prestige and power accrued."

Describing Meghan as a "powerful woman with a deep sense of morality and a fierce work ethic", he continued: "She fell in love, moved to a new country, became a household name across the entire globe and began the difficult work of trying to find her place in a family dynamic that can at best be described as complicated and at worst, seemingly archaic and toxic."

He called the royal family's behaviour "obscene" for "promoting and amplifying accusations of 'bullying' against a woman who herself was basically forced to flee the UK in order protect her family and her own mental health".

Adams concluded: "Find someone else to admonish, berate and torment. My friend Meghan is way out of your league."

A spokesperson for the palace has declined to comment.

Meghan's former Suits co-workers have also stood up for the her, with the show's creator Aaron Korsh calling the duchess a "strong woman with a kind heart."

"Meghan Markle is not a monster," he tweeted. "She's a strong woman with a kind heart who's trying to make her way in an unimaginable situation. I don't know the specifics of some incident from years ago but if late night emails makes you a horrible person, then I'm going to hell 50 times over."

Co-star Abigail Spencer also stood up for the duchess in a post on Instagram, which affirmed Meghan's kind and generous spirit. "Meg walks the walk," Spencer wrote. "She's a doer. In the face of darkness, she shows up in light and in love. When they go low, she goes high. Again and again. She works tirelessly - and often quietly - for the causes she believes in. She writes her own speeches. She and Harry are an incredible team."

Public support for the duchess from former colleagues comes in the wake of allegations that she bullied staff at Kensington Palace. According to the Sussexes' then communications secretary, Jason Knauf, Meghan forced two personal assistants to leave and undermined a third employee.

Meghan's representative firmly denied the claims, arguing it is just the most recent instalment of the media's smear campaign against her.

"The duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma," read a statement from her rep.

"She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good."

Meghan and Prince Harry have sat down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey to discuss their decision to step back from their senior royal duties.

The interview will air on Sunday, March 7th at 8pm eastern on CBS in the US, and Monday, March 8th at 9pm on ITV.
