Petra Diamonds says export parcel from Tanzanian mine blocked

Sept 11 (Reuters) - Petra Diamonds Ltd (Frankfurt: 908093 - news) said on Monday a parcel of diamonds from a mine it co-owns in Tanzania was blocked from export and that authorities were questioning some personnel.

Tanzanian President John Magufuli last week ordered a review of a Petra contract and asked public officials to resign over the outcome of an investigation into the mining sector.

The company said it had not been told the reason for the action, adding that it conducted all operations related to the Williamson mine in a "transparent manner and in full compliance with legislations.

The mine is held 75 percent by Petra and 25 percent by the Tanzanian government. (Reporting by Arathy S Nair in Bengaluru; editing by John Stonestreet)
