Tommy ‘Two Gloves’ Gainey wins Korn Ferry Tour opener one month after prostitution arrest

One month after he was arrested in Florida on a solicitation of prostitution charge, Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey has already found himself inside the winner’s circle.

Gainey fired a 3-under 69 on Wednesday, closing his day with three straight birdies, to win The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic, the Korn Ferry Tour’s season opener.

Gainey flew ahead of the field on Wednesday, mounting a four-stroke lead while recovering from a brutal second-round 75.

John Oda and Dylan Wu finished in a tie for second at 7-under, while George Cunningham, Sean O’Hair, Will Zalatoris and Jose de Jesus Rodriguez finished at 6-under for the week.

The win marked Gainey’s third on the Korn Ferry Tour, and his first since 2010.

Gainey was arrested in Florida in December in a massive prostitution and human trafficking sting nicknamed “Operation Santa’s Naughty List” for allegedly soliciting a prostitute. He was one of 124 people arrested, and is facing one first-degree misdemeanor solicitation charge. He is due in court on Feb. 6.

Gainey turned pro in 1997, and earned his Tour card nearly a decade later. The 44-year-old has one win on the PGA Tour, and has spent most of his career jumping between that and the Korn Ferry Tour. He has one finish inside the top-25 in the past five seasons on Tour, however rose to fame in the golf world for his use of two golf gloves instead of the usual one, hence the “Two Gloves” nickname.

Thanks to three straight birdies to end the day, Tommy ‘Two Gloves’ Gainey won The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic on Wednesday by four strokes.
