Yahoo Finance Phoebe Dynevor Says Watching Bridgeton's NSFW Scenes With Her Family Was 'Awkward'
Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page's sex scenes in the regency-core driven Netflix hit Bridgerton may have been the talk of the social media 'ton', but for the show's leading actress they made for rather 'awkward' viewing for her family.
In an interview for The Guardian on Sunday (January 17), the British star opened up about what it's like to sit down with her relatives and show her artful work - including those intimate scenes with the Duke (Page).
The Waterloo Road alum revealed to the news outlet that she was happy for her 'Mum and Dad to see [the series], because they know the industry', whereas turning the show on with other family members has been less straight forward of an experience.
The actress' parents are Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Metcalfe in Coronation Street, and writer and actor Tim Dynevor.
More than an estimated 63 million viewers tuned in to watch the now widely successful show in its first four weeks on Netflix, including Dynevor's family.
When asked about what it was like to watch the on-off love affair between her character and the brooding duke unfold 'with the fam', the actress said the hot-under-the-collar-scenes weren't an easy watch with certain relatives.
'Not my grandparents. And with my younger brother… well, it's awkward,' she said.
Anyone who has felt the burn of second hand embarrassment when watching a steamy sex scene with family can only image how tricky it would've been for the actress to watch those scenes with her loved ones on the sofa.
Dynevor continued by explaining that the duke-directed solo pleasure scene was far harder to do than the carefully planned sexual encounters because 'we would rehearse the sex scenes like stunts.
'I would literally know exactly where a guy was going to put his hand at what moment. And we’d have props, like mats, that went in between us. It was more intricately choreographed than our dance routines in a way, so I never really felt exposed at all,' she added.
As to what makes the scenes so enthralling for viewers, the actress credited the work of a great intimacy coordinator in an interview for BAZAAR.com, rather than the fan-driven rumour of an off screen romance between herself and Jean Page.
'When we first met, we had the room with a bed in it, and she just came in basically with a bag of things. And it was yoga balls and yoga mats and bits of cutout things and just all these tools that you can sort of use,' she told the publication.
