Piers Morgan reignites Meghan Markle row after wedding confusion

Piers Morgan has reignited his row over Meghan Markle over her claim that she and Prince Harry married three days before their televised wedding ceremony.

The former Good Morning Britain host left his role on the show following the fall-out after he said he did not believe what Meghan said during her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which she talked about her mental health and having suicidal thoughts.

Now he has tweeted that he still does not believe her, after the General Register Office revealed that Meghan and Prince Harry's wedding certificate is dated May 19, 2018 – the date of the public ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Morgan tweeted a link to the story captioned: "Do we still have to believe her?"

However, plenty of people reacted accusing Morgan of a vendetta against Meghan.

One wrote: "Harry agreed they had a private ceremony 3 days earlier. So as far as they were concerned that's when they got married. You doubt her, you doubt Harry. Then again, it's all about Mrs Sussex with you, Morgan. Blatant misogyny."

Another tweeted: "It was clearly a sweet private exchange of vows that they cherish and consider their day. Genuine question why do you feel so triggered by her? Consider is it connecting you back to time you were rejected before?"

During the Oprah interview, Meghan said: "You know, three days before our wedding, we got married. No one knows that."

But now Stephen Borton, former chief clerk at the Faculty Office, has told The Sun: "They did not marry three days earlier in front of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

"The Special Licence I helped draw up enabled them to marry at St George's Chapel in Windsor and what happened there on 19 May, 2018, and was seen by millions around the world was the official wedding as recognised by the Church of England and the law.

"What I suspect they did was exchange some simple vows they had perhaps written themselves, and which is fashionable, and said that in front of the Archbishop – or, and more likely, it was a simple rehearsal."

The Archbishop of Canterbury, who the couple said had married them in private at Nottingham Cottage, has so far not commented on the story.

In a GMB discussion about the Oprah interview, Morgan had said: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she says.

“I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report.”

The next day Morgan sensationally stormed off the Good Morning Britain set when co-star Alex Beresford called him out over his constant criticism of Meghan. Morgan left the show shortly afterwards.
