Piers Morgan's Life Stories gets new host as he quits show

Piers Morgan has stepped down from his interview series Life Stories, and ITV has already found his replacement.

The final episode of the show will air before the end of this year with Morgan's former colleague at Good Morning Britain, Kate Garraway.

Following that season finale, Garraway will take Morgan's place as the show's host in the final three episodes, airing in early 2022.

He confirmed the news on Twitter on Thursday (October 21), writing: "BREAKING NEWS: I'm quitting Life Stories after 12 years and 100 shows.

"My final one will be with my fabulous friend @kategarraway and she will then present the remaining 3 planned shows of the next series as I leave ITV to host my new global daily show. It's been a blast!"

Piers has led the ITV show since it premiered in 2009, with interviewees including Sir Cliff Richard, Bake Off's Mary Berry, Strictly Come Dancing's Bruno Tonioli, The Apprentice's Lord Alan Sugar and Caitlyn Jenner.

"I can't think of anyone who I'd rather finish my run with," Piers said (via The Sun). "Kate was a wonderfully loyal colleague during my five years on Good Morning Britain and is one of my favourite people in the world."

The episode is likely to centre around Garraway's public battle to help her husband Derek Draper through long Covid.

"How she's handled the devastating situation with Derek sums her up," Piers added. "She'll be as brilliant at Life Stories as she is at everything else."

Piers and Kate Garraway worked together at ITV's Good Morning Britain, before Piers' shock departure in March following his criticism of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Kate said: "I'd never try to be Piers. But he did say you'll be gripping and wonderful in your own right."

It was recently announced that Morgan will join Rupert Murdoch's new TV channel talkTV as a presenter next year.
