Plans unveiled for Doctor Who themed escape rooms across UK

A series of Doctor Who-themed escape rooms are planned in the UK: PA

​Doctor Who obsessives will get the chance to play games based on the famous science fiction TV show, under new plans unveiled on Monday by an escape room operator.

AIM-listed Escape Hunt has signed a five-year licence agreement with BBC Studios to create themed sites across the UK over the next three years.

Escape Hunt’s chief executive Richard Harpham said: “The games will incorporate iconic images from Doctor Who, and that might include daleks.”

He added: "Doctor Who represents the very best in British action adventure, and has a loyal and dedicated fanbase that spans all generations."

Whovians will have to wait until December for the new rooms to open, shortly after the launch of the next series, where actress Jodie Whittaker will debut as the first female Doctor.

Escape Hunt, which has four venues, expects to open a London site next year.

The company thinks that using branded content in its escape rooms broadens the firm's appeal both to the public and to corporate clients, and will help to drive footfall and brand awareness.
