The PlayStation 5 looks great, but what about the launch titles?
During Sony’s PlayStation 5 Showcase, the company revealed that the PS5 will cost $500 ($400 for the digital-only version) and teased a bunch of upcoming games for the console. Unfortunately, it’s been difficult to determine which games will be available to play upon the PS5’s release because of delays and murky release windows.
Thankfully, the folks at Kotaku made a list of PS5 games that will be live and ready when the console drops in November.
Here’s a list of some of the notable titles.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a PlayStation exclusive
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man and, like its predecessor, a Sony exclusive that will only be available on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
As a follow-up to its wildly successful predecessor (the Spider-Man game made more money in three days than Spider-Man: Homecoming did on its opening weekend), Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the ace in Sony’s pocket right now. For many prospective PS5 owners, this game is the biggest incentive to buy the console on launch.
Oh, you can also get a Spider-Cat who fights criminals with you while wearing his own cute little Spider mask. Yes, he is a bodega cat.
Astro’s Playroom comes pre-loaded with your PlayStation 5
Astro’s Playroom is a 3D platformer that comes already installed into your PS5.
It’s a cute game appropriate for all ages and a sort of mini-showcase for the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller. You’ll get different feedback for environmental effects such as electric shocks, strong winds and so forth.
Demon’s Souls is a remake of a quiet hit that started a legendary gaming franchise
Demon’s Souls 2020 is a remake of the 2009 classic that started one of the most polarizing franchises in video games.
FromSoftware is the Japanese developer behind Demon’s Souls the Souls series, a family of games that have a reputation for being very difficult. It’s a design approach that has deeply polarized critics who see it as either deeply rewarding or alienating. There are no difficulty levels in FromSoftware’s games — every game is set to “hard” with no way to change it.
Love it or hate it, Demon’s Souls is a part of gaming history.
Fortnite, because of course
Fortnite doesn’t need an explanation, but in case you need one, it’s an extremely popular game and one of the Big Two games (the other being PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG) in the battle royale genre.
So naturally, it’s on the PS5.
Destruction AllStars is a game that mixes vehicular combat with MMA and parkour
Destruction AllStars will have you road raging in a different way.
Driving is a prominent feature of the game but there’s no racing here. Your objective will be to ram into enemies to eliminate them, but losing your car is not the end.
On foot, you can jump on top of other cars, engage in fisticuffs with other carless fighters and even run along billboard signs.
Bugsnax is a very appropriately named game about creatures that are bug-snack hybrids
Bugsnax takes players to Snaktooth Island, the home of the eponymous Bugsnax. Every Bugsnax is half bug and half snack. Creatures like cheeseburger beetles and baby back rib centipedes will be common sights
Eating Bugsnax will transform your body makeup, so if you eat a french fry spider, your arm will turn into a french fry. You also eat the Bugsnax while they’re still alive.
This is the most disturbing children’s game I’ve ever seen.
Godfall is a gorgeous loot-slasher for the grind gamers
Godfall is a very, very pretty game that’s presumably about deicide?
We don’t really know much about the setting except it’s a fantasy setting and you play as a warrior from a dwindling organization called Knight’s Order. There’s also an apocalypse you have to stop.
The game has billed itself as a looter-slasher, meaning it’s a fast-paced action game where you fight lots of enemies so you can get gear to fight even more enemies.
That’s all — for now
Unless Sony has some more hidden surprises in the next few weeks, these are the most noteworthy launch titles.
The PlayStation 5 is launching on Nov. 12 in the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. It will be available everywhere else on Nov. 19.
