Local police teams said they helped to disperse a large number of young people from Darwen Town centre.

Darwen Neighbourhood Policing Team said they had been alerted to reports of a group of youths planning to meet up to fight.

Officers posted: "We attended and dispersed the youths and dealt with the situation in a quick and professional manner. "

Police said they had also participated in activities to encourage people to stay away from anti-social behaviour.

Officers added: "As promised we travelled on the number one bus and were again thanked by the driver and the public.

"Two of our team members joined some of our Blackburn colleagues and spent time couching football at the soccer dome, diverting the children's attention away from ASB.

"In the morning officers attended Birchall Nursing home and spent time listening to residents and giving advice and reassurance where necessary.

"We again were high visibility on the town centre deterring any crime. If you see us please stop and chat were here to help."
