Police are appealing for witnesses after a gang of four males jumped out of a car and stabbed a teenager in a brazen attack in broad daylight in Redbridge, east London.

Officers said the gang jumped out of a blue VW Passat car and pounced on a 16-year-old boy on 1 October on Richmond Road at around 2.45pm.

One of the suspects was armed with a knife and stabbed the teen in the arm before they fled the scene in the car.

Officers have released CCTV stills of two of the four males believed to have carried out the attack.

Police and London Ambulance Service attended the scene and the teenage victim – who has not been named – was taken to hospital for treatment. He was discharged later that day.

Detective Constable Charlotte Joseph, from the East Area Command Unit, said: “This was a brazen attack carried out in broad daylight in the middle of a busy street. Those involved are clearly dangerous individuals who need to be apprehended.

Knife crime hit a record high in England and Wales before the coronavirus lockdown, figures from January showed, but has fallen since.

The number of offences involving knives and sharp instruments rose by 7% to 45,600 in the year to March 2020.

“Offences involving knives or sharp instruments have been experiencing a rising trend since the year ending March 2014,” a report by the Office for National Statistics said.
