Police Investigate Death of Woman Found in the Middle of the Street in Upstate NY

Police in upstate New York are investigating the death of a woman who was found lying in the middle of the road.

On Friday morning, at around 3 a.m., Watertown police received a call near the Black River. Upon arrival, officers found the woman unconscious in the road on Veterans Memorial Riverwalk, according to WWTI and NNY306.

She was taken to a nearby hospital, where hours later she died.

It remains unclear how the woman died and whether investigators believe foul play was involved, WWNY reports.

Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the woman's cause of death.

The victim's identity is being withheld until her next of kin is notified.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's and District Attorney's offices, as well as state police, are aiding in the investigation.
