Police name teen, 18, stabbed to death just hours into New Year's Day

A teenager stabbed to death just hours into the new year has been named by police.

Jay Fathers, 18, was attacked just before 3am on January 1, with a relative claiming on Facebook that he had been stabbed six times.

Thought to have once been an aspiring actor, the teen was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Thames Valley Police said officers were called to reports of an altercation in Walsh’s Manor, Stantonbury, Buckinghamshire, just before 3am on New Year’s Day where they found two men with serious injuries.

“Sadly, an 18-year-old man died in hospital, despite the best efforts of medical professionals,” the force said. “The victim has now been formally identified as Jay Fathers, aged 18, from Milton Keynes.”

The force said a post mortem examination carried out on Saturday found the cause of death to be a stab wound to the abdomen.

A 21-year-old man from Milton Keynes has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Melanie Fathers, who described herself as Jay's auntie, claimed on Facebook that her nephew had been stabbed six times.

She wrote: “Thinking of my brother and his family after my nephew was stabbed 6 times on New Year’s Day. Sending love, compassion and healing to his friends and family R.I.P.”

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Andy Howard, from Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, said: “We are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Jay’s death and I would appeal to anybody who has any information that can assist this investigation to please contact police on 101 or online.

“We extend our thoughts and sympathies to Jay’s family, and we would ask that their privacy is respected at this very distressing time.”
