This horrific footage shows the moment a PCSO was dragged along by a car for 30ft when a teen driver tried to flee during a routine police stop.

PCSO Kieron Poole is heard screaming for help as he was dragged around a car park by the car before wrestling the keys from the ignition.

Driver Muhammad Nadeem, 19, then fled on foot with the brave officer following him down a dead end between houses in Smethwick, West Midlands.

The dramatic footage shows the teenager charging and swinging at the PCSO before fleeing again.

West Midlands Police said PCSO Poole had approached Nadeem in a parked car on January 25 last year after smelling cannabis coming from it.

The officer, from the force's Smethwick neighbourhood team, said he thought he would fall under the wheels and die as he was dragged along by the car.

He said: “It all happened so quickly. Before I knew anything my arm was attached to the car and I was being propelled, hanging on the side, through a couple of branches, a good 20-30ft before I knew what was happening.

“I shouted ‘Stop! Stop!’, but he wasn’t paying any attention.

"I knew I had to get the key out of the ignition. If I didn’t, I could have gone under his tyres and I might not be here today."

He said he decided he didn't want Nadeem to "get away with it", so "instinctively chased him".

"He was cornered and I was hoping he’d give up. Instead, he decided to rush towards me and quite forcefully hit me at the side of the head with a plastic bottle.

"My adrenaline was going so I felt like I could carry on trying to pursue him."

Having already been attacked, he decided not to get too close and waited for colleagues to come and help.

After arresting Nadeem, who had a small amount of cannabis on him, officers found a hammer and an axe inside the car, police said.

Nadeem, of Florence Road, Smethwick, said he was "shocked" when shown the footage and admitted it "doesn’t look good".

PCSO Poole was left with a bruised arm but no serious injuries after the incident.
