Police body camera footage captured a dramatic rescue in Alliance, Ohio, with officers pulling a panicked woman from her SUV just before it sank into the freezing Mahoning River.

She can be heard yelling, “I’m dying,”“Please hurry up,” and “I’m cold,” before a team of officers smash the rear window of the car with a tomahawk axe and carry her to safety.

Alexus Delainey Schreckengost, 24, was driving home from work on Sunday when she fell asleep at the wheel and drove into the Mahoning River, according to police.

She called 911, who remained on the line with her throughout the entire rescue, and dispatched police and fire department personnel to the scene.

As the water rose further into the car, she climbed into the back seat.

“They communicated well and got her out of the vehicle,” police lieutenant Dave Bair told The Repository, a local paper. “If these officers had been late by 30 seconds, I don't know if she would be here."

The water in the river was nearly freezing, officers said.

Ms Schreckengost was treated for minor facial injuries at a local hospital then released, and none of the officers involved in the rescue were injured.
