Practice makes perfect for snooker legend White

Jimmy White has been there, seen it and done it all but is practicing more than ever as he prolongs his snooker career.

White was one of the greatest players in the game in the 1990s but still has the desire three decades on, with his appearance at this week’s Snooker Shoot Out highlighting his hunger.

And it’s so far, so good for the ‘People’s Champion’, overcoming Adrian Rosa to book his place in Saturday’s second round.

“I am playing all the time, I’m really playing well and really enjoying my practice,” he told Eurosport.

“I’ve got three more tournaments before the World Championships, so it’s all systems go.

“Hopefully I can go and have a good run this week.

“I probably do more practice now than I’ve ever done, but I’m lucky to be getting on the table at all with the way the world is currently.”

The Shoot Out format is unlike any other, with matches lasting just one frame with players up against a shot clock in the ten-minute contest.

White has been a big fan since its inception a decade ago and reached the third round in two of the past three seasons, a run he wants to improve on behind closed doors in Milton Keynes.

“Even though I’ve played in every Shoot Out, that clock is impossible to get used to and you just have to deal with it,” he added.

“I missed a very easy blue, luckily he didn’t punish me.

“There are a lot of players who have a good opportunity to play under the lights and against the pros.

“It’s a great tournament all-round, and a good one for people like myself who are struggling for ranking points.

“Go deep here and you get a lot and it’s a good bit of fun.”
