Pregnant woman faces dilemma over husband’s ‘unfair’ baby name request: ‘I really hate this’

A woman and her fiancé can’t agree on a name for their unborn child.

The pregnant mother went on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum after they got into a fight about the matter. The problem is, the fiancé wants to name their daughter based on a theme he came up with for his children from a previous marriage. But the Reddit user doesn’t like the theme at all.

“My fiancé has two daughters ages 12 and 11 with his ex-wife,” the mother said. “Last month we found out we’re having a little girl of our own! I was kinda convinced I was gonna have a boy and I didn’t have any names picked out that I loved. My fiancé wants to name her Scarlet though. It’s not a bad name but his other daughters are named Rose and Ruby. I really hate this name theme and I don’t wanna continue it especially since it started with his ex-wife’s idea. It’s supposed to be a way to honor his late mom who died before the girls were born because her maiden name was Redd.”

She argued with her husband about it, but he didn’t want his new daughter to feel left out of the theme.

“I asked him what if we were having a boy, what names would he choose and he said Red or Rusty but he wouldn’t mind going off-brand with a boy name but not a girl cause that feels unfair and I told him that was dumb and he brushed me off,” she explained.

Reddit users chimed in with their opinions.

“You are under no obligation to continue a tradition that he started with the ex,” one person commented.

“You get to choose a name you both love, not just something he wants,” another said.

“A baby’s name should be a decision you are both fine with,” a third person wrote.
