Prem midfielder emphasises desire to make Bayern Munich switch as giants promise to try again
Joao Palhinha has reportedly told Fulham that he ‘expects them to greenlight his departure’ in January, as Bayern Munich will try to sign him again after their deal fell through in the summer.
Palhinha had a disappointing end to a transfer window that seemed to have presented a number of opportunities for him. The Portuguese midfielder was firstly billed as an ideal replacement for Declan Rice at West Ham, though they never seriously pursued him.
It was also said late on that Manchester United had been tracking him, and the midfielder would have welcomed that switch, but Erik ten Hag’s side instead opted for Sofyan Amrabat.
Bayern Munich presented the most genuine exit route for him. A £58million bid from the Bundesliga giants was given the go-ahead from Fulham, but only if they could find themselves a replacement in time.
That’s what they attempted to do while Palhinha was completing his medical and some media duties in Munich, assuming he was going to become a Bayern player.
But the Cottagers were unable to find a suitable replacement, so the midfielder had to head back to London to remain with Fulham until at least January.
It seems he believes it’ll only be until January and no longer. Indeed, TEAMtalk reports Palhinha has ’emphasised to Fulham he expects them to greenlight his departure in the New Year’.
He’s of the opinion that he’ll have a place to leave to, and it seems Bayern will try again, as they’re reported to have told the midfielder they ‘will make another attempt to sign him’ in January.
After Fulham accepted their proposal in January, but had to shut it down, there seems to be no reason why they wouldn’t accept another one a few months down the line.
Now that Bayern’s cards have been laid out early, the Cottagers will have the opportunity to source themselves a midfielder in good time, rather than rushing around in the final stages of the transfer window in hopes they can find a suitable option.
They’re likely already looking at options to replace Palhinha with so that when the moment arrives that they need to, they’re prepared to get straight to business.
