Prince Charles shared a sweet photo with his eldest son, Prince William alongside a personal tribute to him in an open letter.

The Prince of Wales took to social media to share a snap of he and Prince William smiling, with their arms round one another.

The touching photograph was accompanied by a heartfelt message in which Prince Charles expressed his pride in his son, in regards to his recent environmental awards.

The post was shared ahead of the very first Earthshot Prize ceremony which has been championed and hosted by Prince William.

The first annual awards were presented to five winners last night (17 October) to innovative projects which are tackling climate change in some way around the globe.

In the official open letter to Prince William, Prince Charles wrote, “I am very proud of my son, William, for his growing commitment to the environment and the bold ambition of the Earthshot Prize.”

A keen environmentalist himself, the Prince of Wales added that, “As a world, we need to come together to inspire, reimagine and build the sustainable future we so desperately need.

"Over the coming decade, with future generations in mind, the Earthshot Prize, and its inspirational nominees, will help us find the innovative solutions."

Following the letter officially signed by His Royal Highness, the post explained that the Earthshot prize means that five projects would receive £1 million in prize money. The event took place at London’s Alexandra Palace in a star-studded ceremony which was broadcast live.

Both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the event along with famous guests included David Attenborough, Emma Thompson and Ed Sheeran.
