Prince Harry crashes Meghan Markle's 40th birthday bash

Prince Harry made a surprise cameo in a video for Meghan, Duchess of Sussex's 40th birthday.

A birthday announcement, hosted by Melissa McCarthy, launched the Duchess of Sussex's new initiative, 40x40, which encourages people to pledge 40 minutes of their time to help women returning to work.

When the Bridesmaids star asked if she was planning on throwing a tea party with her backyard chickens to mark the milestone.

The royal laughed as she saw her husband outside of the window. Before she could catch him, Harry showed off his juggling skills behind her while sporting a pair of sunglasses.

To kick off her birthday celebration, the Duchess wrote about the cause on the couple's website for the Archewell Foundation.

"In reflecting on my 40th birthday and the many things I am grateful for, I'm struck that TIME IS AMONG OUR GREATEST AND MOST ESSENTIAL GIFTS: Time with our loved ones, time doing the things we love, time spent learning, laughing, growing, and the sacred time we have on this earth," she explained.

Meghan, who became a mum for the second time in June, continued by emphasising the importance of using her time in service to others, then revealing the thought that sparked the idea behind the motherhood-focused initiative.

"What would happen if we all committed 40 minutes to helping someone else or to mentoring someone in need? And then what would happen if we asked our friends to do the same?

"For my birthday, I have asked 40 friends, activists, athletes, artists, and world leaders to help kickoff a global effort by contributing 40 MINUTES OF MENTORSHIP to support women re-entering the workforce," she explained.

According to People, stars tapped to support the initiative included the likes of Adele, Gloria Steinem, Hilary Clinton, Sarah Paulson, Deepak Chopra, Gabrielle Union and Princess Eugenie. Participants promoted the campaign on social media, sharing a graphic that read, "For women who give everything, we give our time. Are you in? #40x40."
