Yahoo Finance Prince Harry's grey suit for his Oprah interview has a special meaning
It's hardly a surprise that royals put a lot of thought into what they wear for important moments. A strategically chosen style or a piece with history can evoke a symbolic connection or pay homage to a special moment—the Queen in particular is famous for choosing brooches that carry personal meaning.
Meghan certainly seems to be following along with that particular tradition for her and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey, their first big interview since stepping back from their roles as working royals; both her dress and the jewellery she's picked for the occasion reportedly carry deep significance for the Duchess.
Considering the impact of this interview, which is set to air on Sunday, March 7 at 8 P.M. eastern on CBS in the U.S. and Monday, March 8 at 9 pm on ITV for the UK, it seems only natural that Harry would get in on the game too, pulling out a suit for the interview that has a special connection all its own.
For the sit down, Harry donned a dove grey J.Crew suit in Italian wool over a crisp white shirt, an ensemble he's sported on a number of occasions over the years, including most notably when he and Meghan first introduced their son Archie to the public, just days after his birth in May 2019.
On that occasion, Harry chose to accent the look with a navy tie for an added touch of formality (they did debut their first born at St George's Hall in Windsor, after all). He also chose a nearly identical ensemble for his and Meghan's first trip to Sussex after being named the Duke and Duchess.
Of course, Harry's hardly alone in rewearing his royal wardrobe favourites. A number of members of the royal family are famous for their rewears, including Harry's sister-in-law Kate and his aunt Anne, Princess Royal, to say nothing of his father, Prince Charles, who has famously been sporting the same two overcoats since the 1980s.
Meanwhile, Meghan wore a silk dress that had a sweet link to Archie in the black and white photo the couple recently released to announce they were expecting their second child.
The dress was made for Meghan by American label Carolina Herrera while she was pregnant with Archie. The duchess has a longstanding relationship with the brand's creative director, Wes Gordon— and he was delighted to see the royal wear his dress in her pregnancy announcement photoshoot.
“I made [the dress] for her when she was pregnant with Archie, so almost two years ago," Gordon told the Telegraph. "There’s a reality, it’s 2021, and we have a world to save, right? This is an undeniable crisis, and everyone has to do their part. At Herrera, we’re committed to pursuing sustainable fabrics. But the number one thing that someone can do for sustainability is hold on to those pieces you buy and use them for a longer amount of time. That’s why I think what Meghan did is such a powerful message. She wore a dress that’s no less beautiful, because it’s two years old... it makes her feel no less special or no less happy."
