With progress into a Covid-19 vaccine starting to look promising, Prince William spoke with researchers about the breakthroughs and discoveries being made at the University of Oxford.

Prince William took part in a video call with Andy Pollard, professor of Paediatric Infection and Immunity; Sarah Gilbert, professor of Vaccinology; and Louise Richardson, vice chancellor of the university. Working in collaboration with AstraZeneca PLC, a British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical company, they produced a vaccine that "is shown to be effective at preventing Covid-19 and offers a high level of protection," per a press release from Kensington Palace.

The scientists and researchers revealed to the duke that the vaccine "will be transformational in the next six months, offering real global potential for saving lives".

Understandably, the royal was elated to hear the positive news and told the researchers: "Well done. I'm so pleased for all of you, I really am. I saw it in everyone's faces back in June how much time and effort was going into this, and I could see that there was a lot of pressure on everyone, so I'm so thrilled that you've cracked it—so really well done."

In June, Prince William visited the university's Oxford Vaccine Group and was photographed in a laboratory at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford. During his visit, he met with Gilbert, Pollard, and other researchers at the facility, and also learned about the work that was being done to research a potential vaccine for the coronavirus.
