HER ROYAL Highness The Princess Royal arrived at Royal Lymington Yacht Club to visit young sailors during their Centenary Youth Regatta Week.

The Princess met children on the slipway and chatted to them in the club’s ‘Balance Pond’ dinghy park before heading to the Royal Lymington Yacht Club pontoon.

There she named a new Lymington River Scow in honour of Dr Jonathan Rogers, one of the founders of the club’s junior sailing programme.

This year’s Centenary Youth Week, sponsored by Durlston Court School, took place from July 25 to 28.

The event brought together many of the club’s junior members and Wednesday Junior Sailing participants for four days of racing.

Phil Lawrence, Commodore of Royal Lymington Yacht Club, said: “Our Centenary Youth Week was a great success. It was wonderful to see so many young sailors having huge amounts of fun out on the water. We were delighted to welcome HRH The Princess Royal on Wednesday, that she took the time to speak with so many of the children, who were proud to meet her.

“We would like to thank everyone who volunteered their time to help make the event such as success, both on and off the water. Many thanks also to Durlston Court School for sponsoring the event.”
