Princess Beatrice shared a rare personal tweet after giving birth

·2-min read

This week we learned the lovely news that Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have welcomed their first child into the world together – a baby girl. Word of the new arrival was shared in a special statement by Buckingham Palace, which said that the little one was born late on Saturday night after Beatrice was taken into Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on Friday.

Both mother and baby are doing well, and the baby came in weighing 6lb 2oz. As yet, her name has not been shared publicly.

"The new baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents have all been informed and are delighted with the news. The family would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care," a Buckingham Palace spokesperson shared.

"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well, and the couple are looking forward to introducing their daughter to her big brother Christopher Woolf [Edoardo's son from a previous relationship]."

As well as the official palace statement, Princess Beatrice herself shared a rare personal tweet to announce the arrival of her daughter, saying she was "delighted". She also thanked the medical staff who were on hand for her delivery.

"So delighted to share the news of the safe arrival of our daughter on Saturday 18th September 2021, at 23.42, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. Thank you to the Midwife team and everyone at the hospital for their wonderful care," Beatrice wrote.

Beatrice's sister, Princess Eugenie, has also shared some moving words about her new niece.

Speaking to new mum Beatrice, Eugenie said: "Congratulations on your new angel. I can't wait to meet her and I'm so proud of you. We're going to have so much fun watching our children grow up."

While addressing her newest family member, she added: "I love you already and think you're just awesome from the photos.. we're going to have so much fun ⁣together.
Love your Auntie Euge."

Beatrice and Edo's newborn is the Queen's 12th great-grandchild, the fourth of which to be born this year. The little girl will be given a royal title, unlike Beatrice's sister Princess Eugenie's son, August, but this is due to Edo being descended from Italian nobility, rather than because of Beatrice's heritage.

Essentially, royal titles pass down through the male line, so because Eugenie's husband, Jack Brooksbank, doesn't have one, neither does their son. However, Beatrice's husband, Edo, is an Italian count, meaning that their daughter is a nobile donna (Italian for 'noble woman').

Congratulations to Beatrice and Edo!
