Yahoo Finance Princess Diana's Brother Shares Rare Portrait of Their Mom — See the Mother-Daughter Resemblance

Princess Diana's brother honored their mother on what would have been her 85th birthday.
Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer, shared a portrait of Frances Shand Kydd (née Roche) on his Instagram page this week. The portrait shows striking resemblance to Princess Diana, with the mother and daughter sharing similar blonde hair and big blue eyes.
"My mother - on this, her 85th birthday," Charles captioned the portrait, which is displayed in the library at Althorp House. "She was born in Sandringham, Norfolk, on the very same day that King George V died - in the same parish."
Charles, 56, added that his mother died three days after the anniversary of her marriage to his father in June 2004, although the couple divorced in 1969 after 15 years of marriage.
Frances went on to marry Peter Shand Kydd, an heir to a wallpaper fortune in Australia, though that marriage ended in divorce in 1990.

Diana and Frances shared a complicated relationship. The late royal revealed that after she wed Prince Charles, she had a rift with her mother that lasted years.
"My mother let me down terribly with the wedding," Diana revealed in her recordings to Andrew Morton. "She kept crying…saying that she couldn't cope with the pressure."
Diana added, "I didn't speak to her for three or four years afterwards. She drove me mad… It was me that was being strong and her sobbing the whole time."

The two seemed to make up to a degree, with Frances spending time with Diana and her grandsons, Prince William and Prince Harry. The mother and daughter even vacationed in 1990 and attended Wimbledon together in 1993.
However, their issues were reignited when Frances told Hello! magazine that it was "absolutely wonderful" that Diana lost her HRH title following her divorce from Prince Charles.

In November, Charles Spencer shared a throwback image of himself and Diana on Twitter. The sweet snapshot, which was posted without a caption, showed the young Spencer standing next to his much taller older sister as she embraced him with one arm.
