Producer Paul Davidson Developing Forthcoming Suzy Krause Novel ‘I Think We’ve Been Here Before’ For TV

EXCLUSIVE: Paul Davidson, former head of The Orchard and IDW Entertainment, has launched development on a series adaptation of I Think We’ve Been Here Before, a new novel from bestselling author Suzy Krause.

Slated for global release via Lake Union Publishing and Radiant Press in Canada on September 24, the book is described as an inspiring and quirky family drama with a fantastical genre twist. It tells the story of the Jorgensen clan, watching as they prepare for the inevitable, after an official NASA announcement comes through indicating that a cosmic blast is set to render humanity extinct within a matter of months. As the planet holds its collective breath to see what happens next, this family proves determined to live every chaotic, emotional, hopeful and loving moment as if it’s their last.

I Think We’ve Been Here Before was inspired by a dream I kept having about the end of the world that was strangely…comforting?” explained Krause. “The book and characters are a kind of love letter to rural Saskatchewan where I grew up and it’s exciting to think about sharing that tiny place with a much wider audience. Partnering up with Paul is a dream come true because we share a vision about how great that can be.”

Added Davidson: “Suzy’s amazing new novel is a propulsive, sweet and emotional journey from beginning to end. I was lucky enough to have read I Think We’ve Been Here Before early, and even luckier to have Suzy entrust me with finding the right path for bringing her soulful, thought-provoking story to audiences — something I can’t wait to do.”

Breaking out with her 2020 release Sorry I Missed You, a novel about friendship, ghosting, and searching for answers to life’s mysteries, Krause saw both that title and her debut novel Valencia and Valentine released by Lake Union Publishing. She grew up on a little farm in rural Saskatchewan and now lives in nearby Regina, where she writes novels inspired by crappy jobs, creepy houses, personal metaphorical apocalypses, and favorite songs.

Following his exit from IDW, the producer of titles like Locke & Key and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Davidson announced his plans to reboot ’80s cult classic Electric Dreams with Black List screenwriter Brian T. Arnold (In the End) and the original film’s writer-producer, Rusty Lemorande. While continuing to build out his slate of film and television projects, he most recently partnered with Tim Heidecker and Dave Kneebone’s Abso Lutely Productions (Nathan for You), director Jim Hosking (The Greasy Strangler) and screenwriter Fabian Marquez (Better Luck Tomorrow) on the upcoming action sports comedy, Gleek.
