Buy a property with a wonderful vista and you could be on to a winner, as the scenic outlook can substantially boost its value.
Research by estate agent comparison site GetAgent.co.uk has found that homes with good views command a price premium of up to 54% compared with similar properties without them, so you can look forward to the prospect of a hefty profit when you sell.
From swanky urban pads to rural retreats, all these homes for sale benefit from views that will take your breath away.
1. Cullipool, Isle of Luing, Argyll, offers over £300,000
This property is a B-listed former worker’s cottage on a picturesque island where slate was quarried until the mid-1960s.
The cottage, which is located in a conservation area, is deceptively big with four bedrooms, a large kitchen/breakfast room and separate sitting/dining room.
There’s also a delightful south-facing garden with a secluded seating area that enjoys views across The Pond — a flooded former slate quarry — and the Sound of Luing towards the uninhabited island of Scarba. If you’re lucky, you might spot otters, dolphins or even sharks basking in the water.
It’s for sale through Galbraith.
2. St Ann’s Suite, Holyrood House, Malvern, Worcestershire, £375,000
Sweeping views across the town, the Severn Valley and towards the Malvern Hills add to the already considerable charm of this two-bedroom apartment, in a newly-converted Victorian house which was once a hydrotherapy clinic.
With an internal area of over 1,150 square feet, it’s very spacious, featuring two double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a bespoke kitchen with granite worktops, a utility and an impressive sitting/dining room with a handmade fireplace and wood burner.
There are high ceilings throughout, and large windows enhance the magnificent views.
Available through Fine & Country.
3. Low Greendale, Wasdale Head, Seascale, Cumbria, £750,000
Hills and mountains provide the backdrop to this freshly-renovated house, nestling in the beautiful Wasdale Valley in the heart of the Lake District.
It consists of a lounge/diner, kitchen, utility room, a sun room, office, four bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus an adjoining barn conversion, currently a holiday let.
Many of the rooms look out towards Wasdale Screes, Scafell Pike — England’s highest peak — and the surrounding countryside. Wastwater, the country’s deepest lake, is a short walk away.
Available via PFK.
4. Les Chalets d’Adelaide, Grimentz, Switzerland, from CHF 1.284m (approx. £1.056m)
Two- and three-bedroom chalet apartments in a historic Alpine village regarded as one of the most scenic ski resorts in the world.
They’re right at the bottom of the piste and only 100 metres from a new giant cable car connecting Grimentz to Zinal, the neighbouring resort.
Although traditional in appearance, the architect-designed chalets are brand new and their contemporary interiors make extensive use of local wood and stone, and the views of snowy mountains and slopes are arguably the best in Grimentz.
