'Go Quebec! Will be the safest jurisdiction in Canada’: Canadians applaud province's COVID-19 vaccine passport plan

Quebec Premier Francois Legault has announced that the province will introduce a vaccine passport system as COVID-19 cases rise.

Legault did not provide many specifics about what the rules will entail, stating that more details will be released soon, but the premier said that people who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine should be able to live a more "normal life."

Last month, the Quebec government indicated that if COVID-19 cases started to rise again in the fall, the province would implement a digital vaccine passport requirement for people to access non-essential services, including gyms, team sports, bars, restaurants, arts and entertainment, festivals, and stadium events.

Quebec reported 305 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, with 60 people in Quebec hospitals with COVID-19, including 16 in intensive care.

Following the announcement on Thursday morning, many people took to social media to respond to the move in Quebec, many identifying that they would like to see something similar in their own jurisdiction.
