The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh leave Balmoral for Sandringham

From Harper's BAZAAR

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are moving base from Balmoral to Sandringham later this month. The couple have stayed at their Scotland residence since 4 August, following lockdown at Windsor Castle.

The monarch will return to Buckingham Palace only for specific events and audiences. The couple's official plans were confirmed by their spokesperson.

"The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will depart Balmoral Castle during the week commencing 14 September to spend time privately on the Sandringham Estate," said a Buckingham Palace spokesperson.

"Subject to the finalisation of the autumn programme, Her Majesty's intention is to return to Windsor Castle in October and to resume the use of Buckingham Palace for selected audiences and engagements. These plans will be kept under review and will of course be subject to all relevant guidance and advice."

Since the outbreak of covid-19, the Queen has appeared in public very rarely to limit the risk of her contracting the virus. In July, she was photographed issuing 100-year-old Captain Tom Moore a knighthood after he raised more than £30 million for the NHS.

She also attended the wedding of her granddaughter, Princess Beatrice, at a private social distanced ceremony at Windsor in July.
