The Queen has completed her first solo royal engagement since the death of her husband, Prince Philip, on Friday.

The Court Circular, the official daily document which records royal engagements, confirmed Her Majesty had presided over a ceremony to mark the retirement of key royal aide Lord Chamberlain on Tuesday. He helps organise royal ceremonies including funerals, such as that of the Duke of Edinburgh which is due to take place on Saturday (17th).

Earl Peel has held the position of Lord Chamberlain for 14 years. He handed back his wand and office insignia to the Queen yesterday, as part of a planned private event held at Windsor Castle. His replacement, Andrew Parker, took over a week before Philip passed away.

The royal family are currently observing 14 days of mourning, but an aide explained that they would continue 'to undertake engagements appropriate to the circumstances'.

The Earl Peel has been involved in the planning of Philip's low-key funeral, which will be held at St George's Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle at 3pm on Saturday.

Just 30 guests will be in attendance due to COVID restrictions, including Prince Harry who is currently quarantining following his arrival from the US at the weekend.

The Queen told her son, Prince Andrew, that losing her husband of 70 years has 'left a huge void in her life'.
