The royal family's official Twitter account shared a beautiful black and white photograph of Her Majesty the Queen on Monday (25 January) to mark Australia Day.

In the stunning snap, we see a young Queen Elizabeth being welcomed by a line of soldiers, after she and Prince Philip sailed into Sydney in 1954. The moment took place during the monarch's first royal tour of Australia.

Looking beautifully regal yet windswept in the vintage picture, the 27-year-old Queen looks like a Hollywood film star in her waist-cinching, long-sleeved midi dress with coordinating hat.

Alongside the gorgeous photo, the royal Twitter account wrote: "To mark Australia Day, we are sharing this #throwback of The Queen during her first tour of Australia.

"The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh sailed into Sydney Harbour on 3rd February 1954 🇦🇺."

The royal tour of Australia and New Zealand began in February 1954 and was the young monarch's first as Queen.

Fans were loving the photo on Twitter, with many commenting to admire it. "Thank you for sharing this lovely photo!" wrote one follower, while another added, "The Queen looks beautiful and elegant."
