A Quiet Place 2 release date brought forward, John Krasinski confirms

The world of film has been beset by production delays and pushed-back release dates during the pandemic — but now, one long-awaited movie might actually appear earlier than planned.

The follow-up to John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place — a tense horror about a family trying to survive after the planet is invaded by a swarm of murderous aliens with hyper-sensitive hearing — was originally due to arrive in May last year, but became one of the first major blockbusters to be thwarted by Covid-19.

The film was kicked into the long grass, and wasn’t set to appear until September 17 this year. But now, Krasinski has taken to Twitter to share an encouraging update. “They say good things come to those who wait,” he wrote. “Well… I think we’ve waited long enough.”

Krasinski then confirmed that the release has been brought forward by a few months, with a new date of May 31.

It’s a much-needed shot in the arm for the cinema industry, which has been ravaged by closures and decreased capacities, all of which has been exacerbated by the many big-budget films that have delayed their releases. No Time to Die, the upcoming James Bond flick, was originally set for November 2019, but has since been pushed back numerous times, and now won’t hit screens until September 30.

The sequel to A Quiet Place will pick up with Evelyn Abbot (Emily Blunt) as she and her children are forced to abandon their (relatively safe) home and venture into the (very unsafe) outside world. Cillian Murphy is the biggest name joining the cast for the second film.
