Quite a few insiders invested in FreightCar America, Inc. (NASDAQ:RAIL) last year which is positive news for shareholders

Generally, when a single insider buys stock, it is usually not a big deal. However, when several insiders are buying, like in the case of FreightCar America, Inc. (NASDAQ:RAIL), it sends a favourable message to the company's shareholders.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At FreightCar America

The insider Alejandro Benavides made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$191k worth of shares at a price of US$3.70 each. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$3.04 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.
