Raptors open 2020-21 season on Dec. 23 against Pelicans

The Toronto Raptors will open the 2020-21 season against the New Orleans Pelicans in Tampa, Florida on Dec. 23.

The NBA released the first half of its regular season schedule for the upcoming season on Friday. The Raptors will play four nationally televised games, along with three more carried by NBA TV. They will not feature on Christmas or on Christmas Eve, and will play their second game of the year on Dec. 26 against the San Antonio Spurs.

Toronto’s longest road trip will be six games in early-February, where the Raptors will face the Orlando Magic, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, and the Washington Wizards. Its longest homestand will be five games in late-January, where the Raptors will host the Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat twice between a game against the Dallas Mavericks. The Raptors will also play five sets of back-to-backs, including four with both games on the road.

Despite temporarily relocating to Tampa, the Raptors will still compete in the Atlantic Division. However, the division designation exists in name only, as the 72-game schedule is balanced with three games against each conference opponent, while still playing the standard two games against teams in the West.
