Raptors' Pascal Siakam out vs. Rockets due to COVID-19 protocols

Raptors forward Pascal Siakam will miss Friday's game against the Houston Rockets due to COVID-19 protocols, the team announced just after 5:30 EST.

The news comes after it was revealed that head coach Nick Nurse, along with five other members of the Raptors' coaching staff, were missing the game due to healthy and safety protocols.

"It's unclear how the Raptors staff came in contact with the virus, or if there is a positive test within the team. The Raptors have been unwilling to share any health information.

"The Raptors played their last game on Wednesday on the road against the Miami Heat. The team did not hold practice on Thursday, although it's not uncommon for players to still come in for extra work on off-days," Yahoo sports Canada Raptors reporter William Lou wrote earlier on Friday.

The Raptors later announced that Sergio Scariolo, who came out of quarantine today from coaching overseas with the Spanish national team, will act as Toronto's head coach.

GM Bobby Webster added that the Raptors could consider grabbing some coaches from the Raptors 905 in the G-League bubble if this becomes a long-term issue.

Siakam's absence should create quite a void for either Aron Baynes or Chris Boucher to try and fill, but the latter has shown the ability to step up more often than not when leaned upon over the past couple months.
