Raptors' Pascal Siakam says he lost 10-15 pounds during COVID-19 protocols

Since rejoining the team on March 17, Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam revealed that he had lost 10-15 pounds while serving a lengthy stint in health and safety protocols.

Though it's unclear if he tested positive for COVID-19, the Raptors forward was sidelined for 19 days after the team had a COVID-19 outbreak on Feb. 26, which caused Siakam, head coach Nick Nurse, and five other members of the coaching staff to be placed under quarantine.

After a shaky return, including a heated confrontation with coach Nurse, the 26-year-old forward is starting to feel like his old self again and looks rejuvenated on the court.

“I’m feeling good everyday, I’m taking care of my body and doing the best that I can to just be fresh out there,” he said after Sunday’s loss to Norman Powell and the Portland Trail Blazers. “I’m in a good space, and I just want to continue to get better and feel good, which I think is the most important thing.”

The weight loss doesn’t seem to be affecting his productivity, as the All-Star forward is averaging 25 points, 9.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists per game while shooting 49.2 percent from the field and 84.8 percent from the free throw line over his last four contests.

While Siakam reaped the benefits, he’s unsure if he will recoup the lost weight as the season progresses.

“I think I’m experimenting to be honest with you,” he said. “I’m feeling good right now, just in terms of being fluid and running. I like it and I guess we’ll see.”

In the midst of Siakam’s hot stretch, the Raptors’ struggles continues.

The team’s push to make the play-in tournament is becoming more of an uphill battle as Toronto currently sits at the 11th seed in the East and are now two games behind the final play-in spot. The Raptors will get another chance to turn things around on Monday against the Detroit Pistons.
