This £1 coin released two centuries ago is on sale for £100,000
The Royal Mint is selling an extremely rare £1 coin for £100,000.
The historic coin dates back 200 years to when Britain’s Queen Victoria was born.
The George III sovereign was one of just 3,574 to be struck in 1819. It is believed only another nine of the coins still exist two centuries later.
The coin is being offered via a ballot on 12 July, and is being sold at a fixed price.
To enter the ballot potential buyers need to register their interest online before June 28th and have their application approved. The Royal Mint will select a winner at random.
According to the Royal Mint, the highest quality 1819 Sovereign known to exist achieved a price of £186,000 at auction in 2013.
