Rebecca Black rings in 10th anniversary of 'Friday' with new remix: 'That song changed my life in virtually every way'

Rebecca Black just dropped a remix of her viral 2011 YouTube hit "Friday" in honor of the song's 10th anniversary.

Black, who was 13 years old at the time, infamously gained notoriety with the single, which described a regular Friday — eating cereal, contemplating what to take in her friend's car, going to a club (?) at 7:45 p.m. The track was mercilessly meme'd for years after its release.

Black gave an interview to In The Know in 2019 and described how hard it was to cope with the online bullying she endured after the song's release

"That song changed my life in virtually every way. I was in no way ready to start, like, what was going to be my career," Black said. "For a long time, I didn't really have a place where I felt I could be, just, safe."

On Feb. 10, Black released a remix of the song that changed her life, produced by Dylan Brady of 100 Gecs and featuring new vocals from Big Freedia, 3OH!3 and Dorian Electra.

“I’d had the idea to do this remix of Friday for years leading up to now, but honestly it was also mildly insane for me to think anyone else would want to be a part of it," Black said of the song in a statement. "As I started talking about it with other artists and producers, I couldn’t believe how stoked people were about it. I am thrilled to have some of my favorite artists (and people) as a part of this moment."

The timing of the remix's debut could not be more serendipitous. On Feb. 8, "Friday" was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), meaning the single has moved more than 500,000 units.
