Rebekah Vardy has leapt to the defence of her husband Jamie after some critics suggested he looked “miserable” during his brief appearance on Dancing on Ice.

The mother-of-five took to Instagram to thank her followers for their support following her Sunday night skating debut on the ITV show, which also stars Myleene Klass, Denise Van Outen and Colin Jackson.

In the comments, a few fans suggested her husband - Leicester City player Jamie Vardy - should have “smiled” more when he appeared on the show.

The player and the couple’s five children appeared briefly on the show via video to wish Rebekah luck. At the time, some viewers suggested he looked “miserable" online.

Under the update from Rebekah yesterday, one fan wrote: “It was a shame Jamie didn’t smile when he was on tv with the kids.”

The star replied: “Umm don’t you think it’s hard enough trying to keep 5 kids quiet and also not being able to hear the other end properly! Give him a break.”

Earlier, Vardy posted a video of herself and her skate partner Andy Buchanan. In it, the skating novice promised viewers she would do "more smiling" in performances to come.

She said: "Thank you to everyone who voted for @andybuchanan2 and I tonight. We are so grateful & so happy. I'm going to work hard on all of the judges' critiques for our week 3 performance."

She added: “I'll promise to do more performing next time and more smiling!"

Writing below, one fan suggested her husband Jamie looked unhappy during his show appearance, writing: "You done very well but your hubby needs to turn that frown upside down!"

She replied: "He was happy!

"He's just like me and seems to look miserable if he isn't beaming. I felt like he was a miracle worker getting all 5 kids to sit nicely on the sofa together."

The star scored 25 on Sunday night - joint top with Jason Donovan, Joe-Warren Plant and Lady Leshurr.

Today, Vardy told daytime show Loose Women she had to be stitched into her tight-fitting costumes.
